My dear friend has just reminded me of the well known romantic custom of Valentine's day tomorrow. Hear is a tale that will give you food for thought.
Once upon a time there were two princesses living side by side in their two palaces. They were great friends with each other and from childhood played with each other in the Palaces' gardens. Gradually they grew up and began to look at the eligible men and Princes with more than just a passing glance. They had become interested in the opposite sex, dating rituals and looking for the 'one'.
Now one princess was blonde very fair of face, gentle by nature and altogether of a pleasing disposition. Here name was Lisa. Her attitude was always optimisitic, hopeful and happy and her life had turned out just the way she hoped it would so far. She was a happy child and became a happy teenager and young woman. The other Princess was a different kettle of fish altogether. She was called Olga. She was dark, also fair of face but sometimes angry sometimes sad or grumpy, argumentative by nature and altogether of a less pleasing disposition. Her attitude was pessimistic, unhopeful, unhappy and even though she had everything she could possible want, her life had turned out so differently, from the other Princess but just as she had expected it to.
You may ask why they were still good friends when they were so different. They say opposites attract. This is the case here. Lisa was forever trying to help Olga to be happy and attract the life she wanted but kept failing. Olga was forever the cynic and didn't give credence to Lisa's words.
One day a very handsome Prince called Valentine came to visit the town where they lived and a ball was given in his honour. It was time for him to pick a wife and he had heard of the two Princesses living side by side. He wanted to meet them. The 2 girls were very excited. Could he be the One for one of them. They had seen pictures of the Prince but couldn't meet him in person till the night of the Ball. Lisa thought from the pictures that he could be the One he was so good looking and he had a hansome smile. Her parents would be so happy for her if they fell in love and got married and gave them an heir. Olga also thought the Prince was handsome and those eyes so beauthiful but how could he fall in love with her when there was her friend Lisa. How could he not fall in love with Lisa. Everybody else did. She herself loved her like a sister but she disliked herself. How could anyone else fall in love with her if she didn't even like herself.
The night of the Ball came around and all three were waiting anxiously to meet each other. The Prince was waiting to meet the two girls and as they came down the long staircase to meet him he couldn't help but be blown away at the beauty of both of them and he wondered how he would choose between them. He danced with Lisa the blonde one and loved the feel of her in his arms and when he talked to her she was very polite, gentle and charming to him. He thought this was a good possiblility. He then danced with Olga and what a different kettle of fish. She felt amazing in his arms but she argued with him and was not charming. However he liked a challenge and could see the spirit in her and so he asked her out again. The next night when he took her out for dinner they talked all night and he realised why he liked this girl more than the other one. She was opinionated and challenging, argumentative and fiery and it excited him. He was going to make her his wife. She excited him and he would never be bored. Olga was so surprised by this and wondered why he had chosen her and told him so and he realised how much this girl masked her low self esteem and he determined to help her to come to terms with this and love her till she loved herself and they could be happy ever after. Lisa was mortified that he hadn't chosen her but at the same time pleased for her friend. These feelings felt very strange. She was sad for herself and perplexed that her confidant optimistic thoughts of the Prince falling in love with her hadn't brought about the expected results of marriage to her One.
The Wedding Day came around and Lisa was bridesmaid to Olga and everything went off without a hitch and the Prince and his bride went off on honeymoon to hopefully be happy ever after. Lisa was left behind still wondering when her One would come along. She had magnanimously helped Olga come to terms with the Prince loving her the most and helped her to see herself in an optimistic light. Of course it was only right that her One would come along soon and now that she had found her friend a partner she was free to find her own.
Lo and behold the Prince's best friend came back to visit her. They had met at the wedding and now both realised their true feelings for each other and wow what an amazing time they had getting to know each other and planning their future. Another wedding for the Town which went so beautifully. They definitely went off to live happily ever after. A long and happy life.
The moral of the story is - What do you think?
Love always
